Part of the Commune of Antibes, Juan-les-Pins is strategically situated between Antibes and Golfe Juan, and equally strategically between Nice and Cannes, and just 15 kms from the Nice International Airport. It is without doubt a fabulous location for a home on the French Riviera.
Unlike the neighbouring towns of Antibes whose documented history dates to when it was an ancient Greek colony in the 5th century B.C.; and Golfe Juan which was made famous when Napoleon landed at the little port with 600 men in 1815, having escaped exile on the island of Elba; Juan-les-Pins’ main claim to fame is far more recent.
It only became a stopping-off point when a railway station was built there on the brand new line from Paris in 1883.
How it has gained fame and favour in the years that followed!
The magnificent Hotel Provençal was completed in 1926 and became the regular haunt of Jack Warner (of Warner Brothers fame), Charlie Chaplin and many other celebrities of the time, attracted by the burgeoning nightlife with a brand-new casino, nightclubs, and by day the fine-grained sandy beaches under the shady pines, the Pinus Pinea after which the town is named, which still shade visitors today.
Juan-les-Pins remains a magnet for the jet-set and holiday makers wishing to experience the best of the Cote d’Azur today…. And who can forget the lines from the No.1 Hit from Peter Sarstedt in 1969, “Where Do You Go To My Lovely” with its iconic lines:
“…. When you go on your summer vacation
You go to Juan-les-Pins
With your carefully designed topless swimsuit
You get an even suntan, on your back and on your legs….”

Jazz à Juan - Jazz Festival
Probably the most important event on the calendar in modern times is the annual Juan-les-Pins Jazz Festival, the oldest European jazz festival of all.
Held every summer in the Gould Pine Grove under the stars, it celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2021 to the sounds of Gregory Porter, Melody Gardot, John McLauchlin, Kenny Garrett and others. Great music for the 60th time, every evening for ten days in July.
Early confirmations in the line-up for July 2022 (at the time of writing) include Diana Krall, Herbie Hancock, and Gilberto Gil, who also happens to be Brazil’s former Minister of Culture, with more world class musicians to follow.
Past artists we have been privileged to watch and listen to under the stars and the pines in Juan Les Pins include Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Sly & The Family Stone, Booker T Jones, BB King, Norah Jones, Sting, Carlos Santana, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Dave Brubeck, Fats Walla, Al Jarreau, Little Richard, and Beth Hart…to mention just a few. Some of them sadly are no longer with us, making it even more of a privilege that they were here.
Property in Juan-les-Pins remains in very high demand, and with the renovation of some of its historic buildings taking place today, including a transformation the famous Hotel Provençal, there are some irresistible villas and apartments for sale there, and investors should be aware of them.
